In accordance with the 2021 Lead & Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) from EPA, water systems must provide customers with specific information about their service lines and maintain an inventory of the type of lines on each side of the meter. To comply with this new rule, New Ellenton CPW sent a letter to customers in August 2023, requesting each household notify CPW of the type of pipe on their side of the meter. While New Ellenton CPW does not have any lead pipes on our side of the meter, we do have some galvanized lines in some of the older sections of the system. Our water treatment process targets the possibility of lead entering our system or your plumbing, minimizing the possibility that it may leach into the water. This information is intended to help owners and/or occupants make decisions on whether and what actions to take to reduce their exposure to lead in drinking water. Homeowners/renters in a dwelling that is built after 1988 most likely do not have lead or GRR pipes going into their house. Based on the information gathered from customers who notified New Ellenton CPW of what type of lines are in their home or if they did not know, New Ellenton CPW created an initial inventory to track and update as needed. Going forward, CPW will be sending out letters on an annual basis to make customers aware of the potential hazards of having these type of lines in their home for consumption purposes, ways to reduce exposure to lead and provide information to customers of resources to help with replacement of water lines to their house. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions on each type of line. If you have additional questions or need clarification on anything pertaining to the new EPA rule, please contact the office at (803) 652-2862.
